Verdi stands as one of the greatest composers of all time; opera after opera remaining as some of the most popular music performed around the world, and for good reason. He brings all these dramatic powers to the incredible Requiem, with exquisite, powerful and demanding writing for both soloists and the choir. As, famously, John Eliot-Gardiner did with the work, Opus 48 under Music Director David Crown will be performing with an historically-informed orchestra. Every detail is laid bare, the emotion comes shockingly off the page as soloists, choir and orchestra take the audience on a huge journey within the evening. There are few pieces that have the raw power to do this, and as Opus 48 enters its fifth season, David Crown felt the choir was ready to fully do justice to this extraordinary work. With international soloists, you cannot miss what will be a tumultuous and searing performance.
