A musical celebration of instrumental and vocal music-making at Oakham School featuring many of its top musical ensembles and soloists. Two sides of Brahms’ musical personality are spot-lit, contrasting the exquisite choral music of his Requiem with the boisterous potpourri of student songs heard in his Academic Festival Overture. Vaughan Williams’ anniversary is marked by contrasting his famous Folk Song Suite for band with the tender lyricism of his 1953 choral piece, Silence and Music, setting his wife Ursula’s poetry. Form 7 music scholar Lucy Collison is the featured soloist in Kabalevsky’s Violin Concerto, and a unique performance of the theme song to the James Bond film Skyfall completes the programme.
