Oakeshott Lectures: Kathleen Stock - Against the Organisation of Assisted Death

Kathleen Stock sits mid-discussion in a black blazer, her short hair combed to one side.

In the first Oakeshott (formerly Scruton) Lecture of 2025, Professor Kathleen Stock will address the contemporary debate on assisted dying, freedom, and mercy.

Professor Kathleen Stock is a distinguished philosopher of aesthetics and the author of four major books as well as countless articles. She was honoured with an OBE in 2021. Formerly a professor at Sussex University, she came to public prominence in 2021, when a cancellation campaign aimed at her position on trans rights led to her resignation. Her case has since become a major bellwether of academic freedom in British universities.

After her lecture, Prof Stock will be joined by Rev'd Professor Nigel Biggar for a live discussion.
