Oxford University Orchestra joins forces with Conductor Enyi Okpara at the Sheldonian Theatre for a programme of Shostakovich, Witter-Johnson and Hindemith. The concert features Shostakovich’s powerful 5th Symphony, a work of striking emotional depth, contrasting stark intensity with moments of haunting lyricism. Witter-Johnson’s exuberant Bacchanale brings driving rhythms and vivid orchestral colour, evoking a spirit of uninhibited celebration. Hindemith’s brilliant Symphonic Metamorphosis completes the programme with brilliance and wit, transforming Weber’s themes into a vibrant and inventive orchestral showcase.
