When the building is not being used for events, you are welcome to visit the Sheldonian on a self-led visit.
For an in-depth insight into the building's history, we recommend joining one of our knowledgeable guides on a guided tour.
We also have alternative arrangements and private tours available for large groups. Please see our Group Visits page for further information.
Sheldonian Experience
For this type of visit, you have the opportunity to explore the whole building including the Auditorium, Old Printing Loft and Cupola on a self-led visit.
Cupola Views Visit
When the Auditorium is closed due to an event, this visit type takes you up 114 steps to the Old Printing Loft and Cupola for a spectacular 360-degree view of Oxford's dreaming spires.
Guided Tours
On select dates only, this half hour guided tour of the Auditorium gives you a glimpse into the history, architecture and ceremonial function of a building that has been at the heart of University life for more that 350 years.
This ticket also permits you to explore the rest of the building at your leisure before or after the tour.
