Oakeshott Lectures: Christopher Caldwell - Can Europe Be the Same with Different People in It?

In the final Oakeshott Lecture of 2026, Christopher Caldwell will ask whether Europe can remain the same with different people in it. The distinguished journalist will revisit his famous book, Reflections on the Revolution in Europe, two decades on. Following the lecture he will be joined on stage by Steven Edginton for a public conversation about the difficult questions posed by mass migration, multiculturalism and Islam. 

Christopher Caldwell is an eminent American journalist: contributing editor at the Claremont Review of Books, contributing opinion writer for the New York Times and member of the editorial committee of the French quarterly Commentaire. He was previously a senior editor at the Weekly Standard and a columnist for the Financial Times. He is the author of Reflections on the Revolution in Europe: Immigration, Islam and the West (2009) and the New York Times bestseller The Age of Entitlement: America Since the Sixties (2020). 

Steven Edginton is an investigative journalist and documentary filmmaker. He was GB News’ US Correspondent, and worked for The Telegraph and The Sun newspapers. His videos have been viewed over one hundred million times on YouTube, and his stories have made the front pages of newspapers around the world.
